The Christmas Questionnaire

I saw this done by Amira over at Shades of Gray and decided it would be so fun and festive to fill it out myself. I am really getting into the Christmas spirit more so than I have in a while.

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? The last time I had eggnog I was probably about 7 and I thought it was vile. And, I cannot make myself try it again. So, hot coco all the way! Preferably Mexican hot chocolate which has a little extra spice to it, and is all around amazing.

Colored lights on tree/house or white? If I had to choose I would choose white. White always outside. It look so magical and elegant at night. Colored can be a little much. However, I do like some colored lights on my Christmas tree.

Do you hang mistletoe? I haven't yet but I definitely think as newlyweds, it's a tradition I want to start. Where does one buy mistletoe though?

When do you put your decorations up? A couple weeks before Christmas.

What is your favorite holiday dish? Smoked salmon. Having family from the Pacific Northwest, that is always the go to for pretty much any holiday or special occasion meal.

Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Every year my family would go to my dad's fraternity brother's Christmas party. There was always a pianist to play carols to sing along to, dressing up in the biggest, prettiest Christmas dress imaginable, and lots of other kids. I just remember everyone being beautiful and happy. I hope to host Christmas parties like that one day.

When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I don't remember the exact moment I found out about Santa. It was definitely later than the other kids. My whole life, and even to this day I am in a perma-bubble. Anything, that I shouldn't see or hear I just happen to be looking the other way or paying attention to something else at that exact moment. I didn't know what swear words were until much later than other kids, I had no idea what the birds and the bees were until sex ed in school. I still might not have gotten it even after that.

Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Growing up we got one present to open Christmas Eve and all the rest Christmas day. I really liked that and I think I'll continue on with that tradition.

How do you decorate your Christmas tree? This is our first real Christmas together. Technically we spent last Christmas together married. But, we had been married 9 days, were living with other people while our house was getting ready and so it wasn't our home, with our things and our traditions. So, this is our first year decorating a tree! I am so excited. I bought mostly traditional colors; red, green, gold and silver. And, a couple shabby chic things. I figure it will last us the longest because it never goes out of style.

Snow! Love it or Dread it? Ehh.... I spent a big chunk of time in the Midwest, and unless you live in Alaska, you haven't seen anything until you've lived through a Chicago winter. Beautiful, and cold. There is definitely something homey to me about snow. That being said, after living in the desert in college, and now the tropics. I would happily never see snow again. Ever. Army, please don't send us to Alaska.

Do you remember your favorite gift? I got so many great gifts growing up, I loved my fish tank and fish. That might be my favorite as a child. As an adult, my favorite is yet to come, hopefully in MultiCam and smelling of deployment.

What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Cream puffs. Yum. I could eat my own body weight in those suckers.

What is your favorite holiday tradition? I want to start getting ornaments from everywhere we are stationed/live. I'm already having a hard time with that though. I've found some very kitschy Hawaiian ones that I don't like, and then some very, very expensive ones that I do but definitely cannot justify buying. Midnight Mass is another one I love.

Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? Ehh. In hot chocolate as stirrers, yum, in chocolate bark, absolutely. By themselves, just sticky.

Favorite Christmas movie? It's a Wonderful Life. Is there really any better Christmas movie than that?

Saddest Christmas Song? This is so silly, but lately All I Want For Christmas Is You has been making me a blubbery mess. Because, that's how I feel, that silly stinkin' man is all I want for Christmas! Under normal circumstances, this wouldn't be my choice.

What is your favorite Christmas song? I have a million. I love classic Christmas carols. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, We Three Kings Of Orient Are, O Come O Come Emmanuel, The First Noel. I could go on forever, but you get the point.

What are some of your Christmas traditions?

Ps- I have no idea why this is formatted weird on my blog...hmm...

I hope you get what you want this Christmas! And I'm totally going to remember that line: "my favorite is yet to come, hopefully in MultiCam and smelling of deployment" because, um -- yes! Now THAT'S a good present! :)
